Dear Friend,

My name is Ike Thompson and I would like to share with you a ministry that is serving the Hamilton area. The Storehouse is a ministry designed to provide food for the needy. The ministry was begun by Karen Wheaton in February of 2009. We purchase food from the West Alabama Food Bank in Tuscaloosa at a cost of $0.16 (sixteen cents) per pound. Food is presently distributed in Hamilton at 818 Bexar Avenue West on the first and third Thursday of each month. For approximately $20 a month, we can provide enough food to supplement a family that is currently receiving assistance from the Community Action Center and from the Food Stamp Program. In its first month of operation, we provided food to thirteen families. In only one year's time we're up to 212 families per month. The numbers are much more than what we projected.

I am writing this letter to invite you to become a part of the Storehouse. If you would like to join our team, there are several ways to help. First, financial aid is the most obvious need. Only $20 a month can feed an entire family. However, we could also use help in the distribution of food on the first and third Thursday of each month. The Storehouse is open on these days from 9 AM to 12 PM. We are also in need of good boxes in which to package the food.
